One More Thought on MBA Brands

Unlike medicine or law, there is no governing body that regulates who can and who can’t practice business. So to a certain extent, it doesn’t matter as quite as much where you go to school. But since there is no sort of certification for practicing businesses, the place where you get your MBA is all that people have to go on to judge the adequacy of your education. Hence, reputation is king.

And it follows that since "reputation is king", where you go to school can be extremely important - particularly if you want to go into hyper-competitive or difficult to enter sectors; i.e. consulting, hedge funds, private equity, etc. I think people underestimate the important and credibility that comes with school brand - having the MBA on its own is no longer a differentiator.
